These piano sonatas, D958, D959, and D960, were long neglected as being inferior to those of Beethoven, but in the last 50 or so years they have come to be regarded as great piano works in their own right, though they are more lyrical and less introspective than Beethoven's sonatas. The sonata in C-minor (D958) shows the most Beethoven influence, in fact the opening theme closely parallels a theme of Beethoven's.

Franz Schubert was a pianist. He wrote 14 sonatas, 11 impromptus and sets of variations for solo piano. Most of his songs are composed for piano and voice. Schubert wrote 7 complete symphonies. His 8th was unfinished and only has two movements. It is in the key of b minor.
