But guess what? Woodwall hails from Tuscany, Italy. So, that means, finally another Italian band which is an exception to the rule that Italian music sucks. One moment its stoner that rocks like theres no tomorrow, you get, and the next song is laid-back stoner with some light psychedelic moments. David McLane this album is incredible! ballsy and raw. great sludge with the perfect vocal delivery, not to black metally but gruff enough to make you wanna swill cough medicine. Woodwall Woodempire (Red Sound Records, 2013). A ritual began, a summoning, the stoner metal album ‘Woodempire’ by the band Woodwall. It was intuition and I liked it right away. Probably because of the vocals, sitting there like a lighthouse throughout. It’s always because of the vocals for me, in this genre. The six tunes side step the usual stoner brand – the power of nature is still there but with such obviousness that it’s unpredictable simplicity conceptually.
