On this self-titled debut, Shrinebuilder's only album so far, the quartet of Dale Crover (Melvins), Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Tribes of Neurot), Scott "Wino" Weinrich (Saint Vinus) and Al Cisneros (Om, Sleep) get along well enough and the album is a showcase of their talents as musicians and song-writers. On the other hand, the album doesn't really set the world on fire and one reason why is that the five songs are short - too short perhaps to develop fully, given that the pace of some can be slow - for the players to really get into the groove of the music. Coming in at less than 40 minutes, the album seems criminally short and all five songs could have done with another couple of minutes each.
