Kung Fu Fighting was written by Carl Douglas and Biddu Appaiah (who also produced the song). The song was originally meant to be the B-side to the track I Want to Give You My Everything. Biddu originally hired Carl to sing the song, but he needed something to record for the B-side of the record and he asked Carl if he had any lyrics they could use. Carl chose the lyrics that would be called Kung Fu Fighting and worked on a melody for it without taking it too seriously

Kung Fu Fighting" is a disco song by Jamaican vocalist Carl Douglas, with production by British-Indian musician Biddu. It was released as a single in 1974 on the cusp of a chopsocky film craze and rose to the top of the British, Australian, Canadian and American charts, in addition to reaching the top of the Soul Singles chart. It received a Gold certification from the RIAA in 1974 and popularized disco music.

I played the A-side to the guy at Pye Records, Robin Blanchflower, and he said: 'Can I listen to the rest of the reel?' When he heard it, he said: 'This should be the A-side. Bruce Lee was a big star. Douglas is from Jamaica. Of course this was used in the 2008 kid's movie Kung Fu Panda, performed by Cee-Lo Green and Jack Black. The original Carl Douglas version was used in the movies City of God (2002), Wayne's World 2 (1994), Beverly Hills Ninja (1997), Daddy Day Care (2003), and Bowfinger (1999). In 1998 this returned to the UK charts peaking at in a rendition by British dance act Bus Stop. Their version sampled Carl Douglas' original vocals.
