The album was released on October 10, 2000 on Mo Thugs Records and Koch Entertainment. Word of the album originally surfaced in 1998 with a different title "Book of . But due to Flesh-N-Bone's incarceration the album wasn't released until three years later with a new name and a new label. Also due to Flesh's incarceration the album was left unfinished.

The album was released on November 19, 1996, on Mo Thugs Records and Def Jam Recordings. The title stands for "Trues Humbly United Gatherin' Souls". Flesh-n-Bone is the stage name of Stanley Vernell Howse, an American rapper in the rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 10, 1973. He is the older brother of Layzie Bone and the cousin of Wish Bone. As an original member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, he was known for his quick-tongued rhymes. At the time of Faces of Death release, Flesh was not a part of the group, explaining his absence from the album.

5th Dog Let Loose does little to dismiss the critics who labeled Flesh the least talented member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony after his disappointing first album. Like on his debut, Flesh can't seem to make up his mind about whether he's a hard-rapping ghetto thug or a melodic gospel rapper. Perhaps if he could find a smooth balance between the two styles as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony did on their breakthrough album, E 1999 Eternal, his juxtaposing natures could be forgiven, yet he never really comes close on 5th Dog Let Loose
