Randy Raine-Reusch is a composer, concert-artist and improvisor specializing in New and Experimental Music for world instruments. An innovator interested in extending the boundaries of music, he has created distinct new performance styles on a number of world instruments from his collection of 700. Raine-Reusch has spent over thirty years exploring the relationship of music to psychology, philosophy, and spiritual or religious practices. Raine-Reusch is currently the Artistic Director of the Rainforest World Music Festival in Kuching, and the Miri International Jazz Festival in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia. Randy Raine-Reusch (born 1952) is a Canadian composer, performer, improviser, and t specializing in New and Experimental Music for instruments from around the world, particularly those from East and Southeast Asia. Raine-Reusch studied at the Creative Music Studio in the 1977 with artists such as Frederic Rzewski, Jack Dejohnette, and Karl Berger, playing only an Appalachian dulcimer. In 1984, he receiving funding from The Canada Council for the Arts to undertake study overseas in Indonesia, Burma, and Thailand. He was the co-founder of the Rainforest World Music Festival held in Malaysia. He returned in 1998 as the Artistic Director and Consultant for both the Rainforest World Music Festival held just outside Kuching, Malaysia, and the Miri International Jazz Festival in Miri, Malaysia, re-branded in 2010 as Borneo Jazz.
