Description

Beverle Lorence "Bebe" Buell (born July 14, 1953) is an American singer and former fashion model, and Playboy magazine's November 1974 Playmate of the Month. Buell moved to New York in 1971 after signing a modeling contract with Eileen Ford, and garnered notoriety after her publicized relationship with musician Todd Rundgren from 1972 until 1979, as well as her liaisons with several rock musicians over the following four decades. In September 2011 Buell released Hard Love, an aggressive rock album influenced by grunge and glam rock. It was produced by Wallerstein and Stephen DeAcutis. The 11-track record features original songs alongside covers of Gang of Four's "I Love a Man in Uniform" and "Baby Baby" by the English punk rock band the Vibrators. A Side of the B-Sides (1984), 3 song 12" EP Picture Disc produced by Todd Rundgren.

The B-Sides are: Bebe Buell (vocals) George Gordon (all guitars) John "Rooster" Rousseau (drums). Backing vocals: George Gordon & Bebe Buell. Recorded at Utopia Sound Studios Produced by Todd Rundgren Engineered by Chris Anderson Mixed by Todd Rundgren.

The terms A-side and B-side refer to the two sides of 78, 45, and 33 1⁄3 rpm phonograph records, or cassettes, whether singles, extended plays (EPs), or long-playing (LP) records. The A-side usually featured the recording that the artist, record producer, or the record company intended to receive the initial promotional effort and then receive radio airplay, hopefully, to become a "hit" record

Buell has recorded with bands The B-Sides and the Gargoyles and as solo artist. Among her solo efforts are Cover Girls (1981), Free To Rock (2000), Air Kisses For The Masses (2009) and Hard Love (2011). Buell served as lead vocalist on the Bebe Buell Band, whose members also included husband Jim Wallerstein on guitar. Buell also was in a band called The B-Sides from 1980 until the band disbanded in 1985. The B-Sides released a three song EP in 1984 called Picture Disc, produced by Todd Rundgren. Buell formed another band, The Gargoyles, in 1985. In September 2011, Buell released Hard Love, an 11 track album produced by husband James Wallerstein and Stephen DeAcutis. The aggressive rock album contained original songs alongside covers of Gang of Four's I Love A Man In Uniform and Baby Baby by the English punk rock band The Vibrators. Awards: -- Show Less.

Buell’s new album, Hard Love, was co-produced by her husband, Jim Wallerstein (. Jimmy Walls), who also plays lead guitar. It’s not her first time in the studio; she’s been trying to get her singing career going for over 30 years, with a deep, raspy voice that she put to use in high-school choir and hotel-room sing-alongs. Keith Richards encouraged her to start her own band, as did good friend Ric Ocasek, who in 1980 sent her into the studio backed by the Cars; later, Bebe Buell and the B-Sides opened for Alice Cooper.

The B-side is both a problem and a solution to a problem. When an empty space needs to be filled with something, something creative can happen. Blur’s early B-sides acted as an aesthetic counterweight to commercially-minded early A-sides like ‘There’s No Other Way’ and ‘Bang. Reedy Brit-psych explorations such as ‘Inertia,’ ‘Luminous,’ ‘Mr Briggs,’ ‘Badgeman Brown’ and ‘Es Schmecht’ have weathered the passing decades wonderfully. Typically, they’re one of the three or four songs on an artist’s current album deemed the most commercial of the bunch and disseminated to radio stations for possible airplay. In the era of streams and downloads, the B-side is becoming an increasingly abstract concept.

With The B-Sides, fans are treated to another side of the band with a collection of live tracks, acoustic versions, covers, and unused studio cuts. While you could always describe the band's sound as raw, there's a sense of practiced composure on their albums that's refreshingly absent from the acoustic home recordings of "The Queen of Lower Chelsea" and "Boxer. The collection's most stirring moments come from recordings culled from the American Slang sessions.
