Moondance is the third studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released on 27 February 1970 by Warner Bros. After the commercial failure of his first Warner Bros. album Astral Weeks (1968), Morrison moved to upstate New York with his wife and began writing songs for Moondance. There, he met the musicians that would record the album with him at New York City's A & R Studios in August and September 1969.

From the acclaimed album Moondance, Van Morrison’s third solo album, routinely included in top rock album lists.

Born in 1945, Van Morrison was introduced to American jazz and blues by his father and by the age of twelve had formed his first band, The Sputniks (if this isn't a sign, then I don't know what is. Ha!), but it wasn't until the latter half of the 60's when things started to pick up from him. In 1966 he and his band at the time, Them, released the rhythm and blues standard Gloria and by 1967 Van had set out on his own and found success with his single Brown Eyed Girl.

Moondance" is a popular song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and is the title song on his 1970 album Moondance. It was not released as a single until 1977. The song is played mostly acoustic, anchored by electric bass, with accompaniment by piano, guitar, saxophone, and flute with the instruments played with a soft jazz swing. Towards the end of the song, Morrison imitates a saxophone.
