I stumbled across this particular album the day after coming home from a phenomenal Flogging Molly concert, in which I found myself directly in the front and staring at their bassist, a man called Nathen Maxwell. My best friend and I were so blown away by Maxwell that we looked him up and found his solo project, Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang. I'd never heard a single song on White Rabbit, but I bought the album regardless. I wasn't disappointed.

While reggae’s flourished through the past 30 years in untold number of ska revivals, it’s largely been marginalized to punk rockers with plenty of Clash, Specials and Operation Ivy records in their collections. Meanwhile, the number of folk-strumming songwriters with pretensions toward Dylan, Laurel Canyon, Townes Van Zandt or, most tragically, Dave Matthews, have expanded faster than Ryan Seacrest’s wallet–with an equally paltry payoff. All of which makes Nathen Maxwell’s solo debut that much more appealing  . The latter is the album highlight; its breezy melody takes wing like nothing else.
