1999 is the debut mixtape by American rapper Joey Badass. It was released on June 12, 2012. It features production by Chuck Strangers, Lewis Parker, Lord Finesse, MF Doom and J Dilla, among others. The mixtape also features guest appearances from members of Pro Era, a hip hop collective of which Joey Badass is a member. The mixtape is based heavily around musical samples. Music videos have been released for "Hardknock", "Survival Tactics", "FromdaTombs" and "Waves".

For an album, dealing with political and philosophical roots this album does not take enough time to make sure that the delivery is honest and contemplative. Still leaps and bounds ahead of the average famous rapper right now, but the level of prov-ado feels completely ill-placed when talking about introspective topics, in moments where he should be most fragile in his lyrics, there is a sort of disconnect for the listeners. One of the best hip hop albums this year so far, I would only say that RTJ3 and Quelle Chris are easily better (so far). I say this also because there's a lot of genuine quality in the album, Rockabye Baby is the clear stand out, the instrumental and verses are really on point, a really cool balance between a strong west coast rep on a proud east coast rep's album. Ring the Alarm, strong showing by Pro Era's main rappers and Meechy (love the rasp), and Amerikkkan Idol.
