Heavy Load formed in 1976, as a trio, by the two brothers Ragne (vocals and guitar) and Styrbjörn Wahlquist (vocals and drums), together with bassist Michael Backlund. In 1977 they recorded their debut-album "Full Speed At High Level", with Dan Molén on bass. The album was released in 1978, but the record company, Heavy Sound Records, went bankrupt after a while, and the Wahlquist brothers formed their own label, Thunderload Records. Former Highbrow guitarist Eddy Malm joined the line-up, and Torbjörn Ragnesjö replaced Dan Molén.

Heavy Load is a Swedish heavy metal band from Stockholm. The band is often hailed as the first Swedish heavy metal band, and were known for their Viking themes. The Wahlquist brothers, who founded the band in 1976 along with Michael Backler, were later producers and owners of Thunderload Records in Sweden, were at one point producing Veni Domine, and also were considering releasing a new album, though that never occurred. Various touring and demo line-ups of the band have included UFO and The Damned bass player Paul Gray, Treat guitarist Leif Liljegren, and renowned architect Eero Koivisto. 1977 Heavy Load recorded their debut-album "Full Speed At High Level" (released 1978), now with Dan Molen handeling the bass playing. The record company, Heavy Sound Records, went bankrupt after a while (not because of Heavy Load I hope!) and the Wahlquist Bros. formed their own label, Thunderload Records, and recorded this follow up 'Death Or Glory' album. It's an early heavy metal classic from 1982.
