Description

His Band and the Street Choir - Студийный альбом от Van Morrison. В альбом вошло 29 треков.

Released in 1970, Van Morrison's Moondance was a hit commercially and critically. Encouraged by his manager, Morrison and a sextet - including three players from the Moondance sessions - hit the studio and delivered His Band & the Street Choir in time for that year's holiday season. Morrison responded to the pressure by relaxing into it. The feel here is loose, often celebratory. He digs deep into his long-held fascination with the New Orleans R&B tradition for inspiration. Domino" is his highest charting single

Van's 1970 album that exudes the rhythm and blues sound of his inspiration: Domino; Crazy Face; Give Me a Kiss; I've Been Working; Call Me Up in Dreamland; Blue Money; If I Ever Needed Someone, and more. His Band and the Street Choir appeared at a time-1970-when Van Morrison was building on the great critical successes of Astral Weeks and Moondance. His third Warner Bros. album contains a number of radio-friendly tracks clearly aimed at the singles market and few clues of the serious, brooding melancholy of Astral Weeks. Kicking off with the jaunty "Domino,".

Album of the Day. Van Morrison. Wednesday, June 12, 2019. On this day in 2003, Van Morrison was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, an honor the singer-songwriter's Warner Bros. years alone would justify. Following MOONDANCE's breakthrough success, HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR arrived in November 1970. While its predecessors contemplated the cosmos and love's rich conundrums, the collection resonates with a purposefully loose ebullience on songs like the Top Ten hit Domino, Blue Money and Call Me Up In Dreamland.

Choir – Andy Robinson (3), David Shaw (2), Ellen Schroer, Janet Planet, Larry Goldsmith, Martha Velez. Coordinator – Elliot Scheiner. Drums, Percussion, Bass Clarinet, Backing Vocals – Dahaud Elias Shaar. Engineer – Elliot Scheiner.

Van Morrison released Astral Weeks in November 1968, not even 18 months after cracking the Billboard Top 10 with "Brown Eyed Girl". Much of the ebullience of "Brown Eyed Girl" derives from its AM-radio friendly arrangement, a sound encouraged by Bert Berns, the head of Van's label Bang. Berns was determined to get the record on the charts because that's where the money was, so the single sounded peppier than its lyric, a disconnect Morrison later noted. When Morrison claimed Astral Weeks sounded "samey" in latter-day interviews, he had a point: it was variations on a theme, whereas His Band and the Street Choir shoehorns celebration, sweet melancholy, and reflection into 12 songs. Perhaps this doesn't make for a spiritually transcendent record but it is an album of sustenance, providing sustained pleasures for times of joy and sorrow.

Compared to Morrison's preceeding hit album Moondance, His Band And Street Choir evokes a more relaxed sound. After the brilliant one-two punch of Astral Weeks and Moondance, His Band and the Street Choir brings Van Morrison back down to earth, both literally and figuratively. While neither as innovative nor as edgy as its predecessors, His Band and the Street Choir also lacks their overt mysticism; at heart, the album is simply Morrison's valentine to the R&B that inspired him, resulting in the muscular and joyous tribute "Domino" as well as the bouncy "Blue Money" and "Call Me Up in Dreamland"

The Northern Irish singer Van Morrison has released 40 studio albums, 6 live albums, 6 compilation albums, 4 video albums, and 71 singles. Morrison made his first recording playing saxophone on "Boozoo Hully Gully" with the International Monarchs in 1962. His first recording session as lead singer/songwriter with Them was produced by Dick Rowe at Decca's studio. Don't Start Crying Now" was the first single released and the garage rock classic, "Gloria" was also recorded at this session.

In 1968, following a legal battle with his former producer’s widow, Van Morrison was at last free to create music again, and Astral Weeks was released in November of that year. To Morrison’s chagrin, while capturing a few good critical write-ups, the album failed to sell. Time changed that initial judgment, and Astral Weeks is now regarded as a classic. These are the bedrocks that founded Van Morrison ’s future career in what became dubbed Celtic Rock. And his extraordinary voice, beautifully displayed on these two releases, is what has given his music so much resonance, both then and now.
