I'd estimate average length of a CD is about an hour- obviously this varies band to band, album to album. Also, +1 to those saying that <30mins isn't an album. Finally, it depends on genre- if you're writing long tracks, you need less of them to fill the amount of time people're going to expect in an album. IMHO, the album is dying nowadays anyway, what with music being downloaded and whatnot. 35 minutes of good material iis much better than 45 minutes with 10 minutes of bland songs which would most likely ruin the overall effect of the album and bore the listener easily.
