It's Too Late to Stop Now is a 1974 live double album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It features performances that were recorded in concerts at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California; the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and the Rainbow in London, during Morrison's three-month tour with his eleven-piece band, the Caledonia Soul Orchestra, from May to July 1973.

Morrison documented this breakthrough on It’s Too Late to Stop Now, a 1974 live album culled from various performances throughout the previous year. Too Late has been reissued along with a box set of previously unreleased gigs (Volumes II, III, and IV) along with a DVD portraying a fraction of one of his shows at the Rainbow Theatre; none of the recordings overlap with the original album. What the newly issued concerts reveal is the night-to-night dynamic of Morrison and his then-band, a group of 11 musicians called the Caledonia Soul Orchestra.

Jef Labes, a keyboardist who’d first hooked up with Van Morrison on the classic Moondance album, was back working on a new record with Morrison in 1973 when his boss flashed on an idea. He said, ‘Let’s put together a tour with strings and everything!' Labes recalls of what was, at the time, a fairly untested concept.

Volume I. "Please retry". Of course, it is possible to have too much of a good thing, but perhaps not when it comes to material from Van Morrison’s legendary live performances which went to make up 1974’s It’s Too Late To Stop Now. This remixed, expanded (3 x CD plus 1 x DVD) set does, unsurprisingly, overlap (in terms of material, but not recordings) from the original release but there is a good deal of 'new stuff’ here to admire. In recent years it became a trend to re-release a few classic live albums, adding tracks that were discarded first time around.

But this is why It’s Too Late to Stop Now is such a gift - it is entirely worth sharing, nothing feels perfunctory. This is not the same show rendered four times, nor is it an exercise in -got to fill the coffers of an aging artist.
