Killer Road is an ambient soundscape and spoken word tribute to Nico – eight interpretations of her lyrics, predominantly taken from classic albums such as Desertshore and Drama of Exile, arranged by fellow poet and kindred spirit Patti Smith. Originally executed as a live performance piece with Jesse Paris Smith and Soundwalk Collective, Killer Road sees the light of day in album format for the first time. Release Date: September 2, 2016.

Soundwalk Collective is an electronic group featuring vocals by Patti Smith and percussion by her daughter, Jesse. Here, they use field-recordings from Ibiza to rework the poetry of Nico. In a 2013 interview discussing the forthcoming Killer Road, Smith pinpointed the common theme she senses in Nico’s writing, and what appealed to her about the project: the focus on the idea of the inner voice.

In addition to music, Jesse has been involved in issues pertaining to global warming and the Himalayan region. At the moment, is Killer Road a one-off project, or are there any plans to collaborate again with Soundwalk Collective in the future? I hope to collaborate with them always. What do you hope people who will be hearing this album for the first time come away from the experience?

But early on in the process of making the pieces on Killer Road, the trio also were able to enlist an icon of their own for help. A random twist of fate sat Crasneanscki next to proto-punk hero Patti Smith on an airplane, where he explained the project. Smith was a longtime fan of the legendary Velvet Underground collaborator's work and was intrigued by the idea, and three days later she was recording in a studio with Soundwalk Collective
