Perlman's Sarasate Carmen Fantasy set the standard for the work, this being his second recording. His partnerships with Mehta have been frequent over the years, and the vibrance and great partnership between Perlman and Mehta is quite evident. Oddly, this album was never called "The French Album" despite 4 of the 5 works were written by French composers and Spain's most famous opera was written by a French composer.
