Rage Against The Machine on stage in London in 2010. Jesus, has it really been 20 years since Rage Against The Machine released their eponymous debut album? Twenty years since the Queen’s annus horribilis. Twenty years since the Rodney King beating sparked the LA riots. The guitar sound I came to be identified with is, in large measure, a single-coil guitar pickup sound, which is unusual for hard rock or metal music, explains Tom. But my influences as a riff writer were Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple, and the bands that came in Rage’s wake may have been more influenced by Metallica and Slayer.
The Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album is an award presented at the Grammy Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1985 and originally called the Gramophone Awards, to recording artists for quality works in the reggae music genre.
Applying the politics of Rage Against the Machine’s debut album to today’s current climate, it's obvious the world has not changed like the Los Angeles rebels had hoped. The iconic line, Some of those that work forces, Are the same that burn crosses can now caption the polo-clad, tiki-torch wielding white supremacists marching in the streets of Charlottesville. Rage Against the Machine were born from the bones of the members’ former projects. Building up to a groove, the riffs sound as though one side is fighting the other before resolving with silence. Repetition becomes the key to the song, as only about eight different lines are uttered in the song’s five-minute run time. There’s a weight to everything, de la Rocha’s vocals blurring the line between rapping, screaming and singing.
