Oasis of the Zombies‘ is a 1982 film by B-Movie legend and exploitation maestro Jesus Franco. The film has also been released under the titles ‘L’Abîme des Morts-Vivants‘, ‘The Treasure of the Living Dead‘, ‘Bloodsucking Nazi Zombies‘, and ‘Le Tresor des Morts Vivants‘

Oasis of the Zombies (originally called L'Abîme des Morts-Vivants, The Abyss of the Living Dead) is a 1982 film directed by Jesús Franco for French producer Marius Lesoeur. The plot involves treasure hunters who track down a lost fortune in Nazi gold in the desert, only to discover that the treasure is still guarded by the Afrika Korps soldiers transporting it, who have become zombies. One sequence lasting 46s of a series of shots of the zombies approaching, close-ups of worms on their faces, and shots of the oasis, is in a different place in the Spanish version (after 79m instead of 74m). Finally after 81m there is one extra shot lasting 12s in the Spanish version showing the zombies disappearing into thin air in front of the oasis

Robert's son, upon learning of his father's death, vows to travel to Africa and find the lost gold himself. While the desert is hazardous enough by itself, the dangers lurking around this oasis are more than any of the treasure hunters ever imagined. In total, there's about 20 minutes of exclusive footage in this Spanish version of the film, which features a partially different cast from the French version (which has been released on DVD in America by Image Entertainment). Oasis of the Zombies – original title: L’Abîme des morts-vivants – is a 1981 French horror film directed by Jesús Franco for producer Marius Lesoeur. In the USA, footage from Oasis of the Zombies was used in Ken Dixon’s living dead compilation movie Zombiethon (1982). Oasis of the Zombies never quite makes it to so bad it’s good territory. There are a few unintentional laughs to be had and some of the zombies make up was decent but it had way too many dull moments and a complete lack of gore.

Oasis of the Zombies is a horror movie that I hadn't seen in years. It's not overly gory like some other zombie movies from Italy during this time. But it does have it's moments. Published on January 27, 2015.
