Disintegration (The Cure album). Disintegration is the eighth studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 2 May 1989 by Fiction Records. The record marks a return to the introspective and gloomy gothic rock style the band had established in the early 1980s. As he neared the age of 30, vocalist and guitarist Robert Smith had felt an increased pressure to follow up on the group's pop successes with a more enduring work

Disintegration is British alternative rock band The Cure’s eighth studio album. It is considered the band’s magnum opus and is very highly-regarded by critics, fans and fictional characters alike. The album remains their biggest-selling release to date. Unlike most Cure albums, Disintegration is a pre-conceived group of Smith’s autobiographical songs that uniformly express one particular mood – gloom, yet stopping just short of communicating total despair like Pornography and Faith. While on tour, Smith came to realize The Cure had become everything he didn’t want it to be. And tensions while touring led to keyboardist Roger O'Donnell leaving the group. Smith later referred to these events as denoting the end of the golden period of the band.

Disintegration is the eighth studio album by British alternative rock band The Cure, released on 2 May 1989 by Fiction Records. Three singles were released during 1982 and 1983 that were a significant divergence in style for The Cure; essentially, pop hits. The Love Cats" became The Cure's first single to infiltrate the top ten in the United Kingdom, peaking at number seven.

The Cure's 1989 album, released during what was arguably the band's peak period, receives a lavish reissue with some terrific bonus material. Or at least whole wardrobes, decoration schemes, and notebook scribbles. One of my first big memories of listening to Disintegration involves wandering around the Colorado State Fair, from the agriculture show to the gang fights by the midway. This is a kind of reach I doubt Robert Smith ever imagined. And yet there they were.

Disintegration" is the Cure's most complete, consistent and timeless music they've ever recorded. It seems for Robert Smith and the guys, the biggest strokes of genius came during their darkest and lowest points in their personal lives. Filled with sorrow, regret and self loathing, Smith wrote some of the most moving music of the 80s with this. you know, i was really struggling with whether to give this album the full 10 or not. i was on my third listen like, "every song's spectacular, the songwriting's A1, and it has one of the most palpable atmospheres i've ever heard. but is it really 10-quality?" then the title track came on. 6.
