Sorority Noise created a mellow and sad album with Joy, Departed. The lyrics are desperate, apologizing, and almost drowning in self-pity at points. When the listener pays attention to some of the lyrics, one might sometimes wonder if the album is a homage to all the Emo bands out there. Listeners have to decide for themselves how to take this album. With that said, it surely is no party album one could dance to. While slightly depressive, Joy, Departed is an album well-worth checking out for a band that has a lot of potential for the future.

Sorority Noise was an American rock band from Hartford, Connecticut. The band consisted of members from the bands Old Gray (Boucher and Singer, and Ackerman), Prawn (McKenna), Small Circle (Boucher, Singer, and Ackerman), and En Route (Singer) Contents. Their sophomore album Joy, Departed was released on June 16, 2015 via Topshelf Records. In the summer of 2015, Sorority Noise opened for Motion City Soundtrack during their Commit This to Memory 10-year anniversary tour. They would also open for several other bands including Knuckle Puck and Modern Baseball. Alternative Press named them.

Employing ghostly guitar slides, distant piano keys, and slightly reverbed vocals, there are a number of atmospheric touches in the production of the album that are intriguing and memorable; the drums are also expertly produced, and go a long way towards making sure that every shift in quiet/loud dynamics packs the necessary wallop.
