Josephine Baker was much more famous as a cabaret performer, dancer and personality than as a jazz singer but, as she shows on some of these early recordings, she could swing and improvise when she wanted to. The two-CD set gives one a well-rounded picture of Baker's prime period and a surprising percentage of the songs are jazz standards such as "Dinah," "I Found a New Baby," "Bye Bye Blackbird," "Blue Skies," "You're Driving Me Crazy," etc.
