The recordings were all of more than a year earlier, still before the Abbey Road sessions, which earlier on the market. The underlying idea was to the songs at one time on the band but the musicianship of the band members was, through years not to act, to very deteriorated to convince without overdubs.

Naked is an alternative mix of the Beatles' 1970 album Let It Be, released in 2003. The project was initiated by Paul McCartney, who felt that the original album's producer, Phil Spector, did not capture the group's stripped-down, back-to-their-roots intentions for the album. Naked consists largely of newly mixed versions of the Let It Be tracks while omitting most of Spector's embellishments and the incidental studio chatter featured between many of the songs on the original album.

Let It B. aked is the stripped-down, album that The Beatles originally aimed to create, free of vocal and instrumental overdubs or added effects. Let It Be evolved from an original plan to make a television show featuring the group playing tracks from the recent ‘White Album. That idea changed in three ways. However, amidst the turmoil of the band’s breakup, the album was re-produced by Phil Spector before its 1970 release and it did not represent the raw and unadorned set The Beatles had in mind. It is the Twickenham Film Studios sessions that have characterised the whole Let It Be project as an unhappy one both in the minds of The Beatles themselves and anyone who saw the documentary footage in the movie. The film sound rolls recorded at Apple (after their decision to move back to their studio there) disclose how much the atmosphere of the sessions had improved.

At last we can hear Let It Be the way it was meant to be, the original masters in their originally intended form, PLUS a bonus, "fly on the wall" disc that presents 25 minutes of music and conversation from the Beatles at work in rehearsal and in the studio. Re-recorded, remixed, overdubbed and repackaged-all before its 1970 American release, mind you-Let It Be has long been the most second-guessed album in the Beatles otherwise sterling catalog.
