Grinderman's latest LP might not be as shocking as their debut, but Nick Cave and the gang still serve up some pretty dirty, liquored up garage rock and blues. What do you think of this album?

Grinderman is the eponymous debut studio album by alternative rock band Grinderman, a side project of members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 5 March 2007 on Mute Records in Europe and ANTI- in the United States.

When Grinderman released their debut in 2007, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Jim Sclavunos, and Martyn Casey created a reckless, drunken animal of an alter ego to the Bad Seeds. The album bridged territory mined by everyone from the Stooges to Suicide to Bo Diddley. Again recorded in the company of producer Nick Launay, Grinderman 2 is a more polished and studied affair than its predecessor, but it's a more sonically adventurous, white-hot rock & roll record. The opening, "Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man," comes closest to the songs on the previous album, but feels like it comes.

Both Grinderman records have this seething beast-form under the surface that's ready to explode, and even though I love the original versions of these songs, it's a record that puts me on edge (few artists can do that consistently!). I didn't get the same vibe from most of the remixes, unfortunately. I prefer gatefolds to these two-in-one sleeves, but the inner sleeves were of pretty good quality, so that helps. The labels on both of my LPs appear scuffed, but I'm not sure if that's an aesthetic choice (doesn't affect play).

Grinderman 2 is the second and final studio album by alternative rock band Grinderman, a side project of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 13 September 2010 on Mute Records in the United Kingdom and ANTI- in the United States. Grinderman had been put on hold due to several members' involvement on Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' fourteenth studio album, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, in 2008. After the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds summer tour in 2008, the band began recording.

The point, of course, is that Grinderman's self-titled album was a gleefully crude, immature, and crass record by a group of scraggly-haired men who should have, and in fact did, know better. The greatest strength of the record, evidenced in the stupidly simple noise riffs of songs like "Get It On" and "No Pussy Blues", was that it sounded like the band simply didn't care what they were playing. Grinderman 2 feels like the necessary next step for the band: namely a record that sounds more sophisticated than noisy garage jams
