The In Sound is an album by American jazz saxophonist Eddie Harris recorded in 1965 and released on the Atlantic label. The album features Harris' first recording of "Freedom Jazz Dance" which would become a jazz standard after featuring on Miles Davis' album Miles Smiles (Columbia, 1966). All compositions by Eddie Harris except as indicated.

Eddie Harris signed to Atlantic in 1965, opening the most celebrated chapter in his long career. The In Sound, his first album for the label, offers everything Atlantic jazz head Neshui Ertegun was looking for at the time. It has the affability of a great club set, with ever-shifting rhythms that never become overbearing or overreaching. In fact, this is a kind of sophisticated dance music, delivered with the utmost integrity and authenticity. 1979, Soweto 1979, The Soldier 1980 Once More 1984, with Eddie Harris The In Sound Mean Greens The Tender Storm Excursions How Can You Live Like That. This is one of Eddie Harris' great records. The underrated but popular tenor saxophonist introduces his standard "Freedom Jazz Dance," plays one of the earlier versions of "The Shadow of Your Smile," romps on "Love for Sale" and "'S Wonderful," and also performs "Born to Be Blue" and his own "Cryin' Blues. Harris is heard in prime form in a quartet/quintet with pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Billy Higgins, and part-time trumpeter Ray Codrington. A gem. Track Listing.

There is a prototype "Listen Here", with Eddie Harris playing electric piano (and Ray Barretto on congas!). The final tunes, "Blues in the Basement" and "Goin' Home" are, funky, swinging, organ-combo blues comps. Eddie had formidable chops and technique, something that is often.
