This is a quality hardcore Hip Hop record from 1985, the production is fantastic and sounds a little ahead of it's time, more of an 86 sound. It has an amazing synth melody running throughout, it sounds instantly familiar but I am sure it is an original melody and not based on anything else, very catchy. The drum programming really makes this record stand out, if you are familiar with the Duke Bootee production's from 1986 then this has that drum sound, very tough heavy drum pattern, a little more uptempo than Bootee's productions and better for it, in fact I used to think this was a Duke Bootee production until I owned the record. The drum break after the first chorus is super tough and are some of the toughest beats I have heard on wax. The MC Cooley C has a great voice and delivery, he reminds me a little of Grandmaster Caz, very NYC, very clear delivery. The first couple of verses are the best, the lyrics are pretty good for the time and are based on the ups and downs of life on the streets, the last couple of verses are basically brag raps. Cooley C also tries to sing a little bit at the end of the track, but don't let that put you off, it's not too cheesy and it's done in a Hip Hop way and suits the track. Overall if you like your mid 80's Hip Hop with tough beats and lyrics this is a must, a bit of a lost gem as it's not one of the better known records of that era.
