Rhoda Dakar (born 1959) is a British singer and musician, best known as the lead singer of The Bodysnatchers, who were signed to the 2 Tone record label. Dakar, born in Hampstead, London, joined The Bodysnatchers in 1979. Their first single was a double A-side, "Let's Do Rocksteady" backed with "Ruder Than You". It reached 22 in the UK Singles Chart. The band were invited to appear on Top of the Pops, to tour with The Selecter and to record a session for BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel.
To celebrate The Bodysnatchers 35th Anniversary, Rhoda assembled an all-star cast to in effect record The Bodysnatchers debut album - Rhoda Dakar sings The Bodysnatchers. 2 Tone label mates Lynval Golding and Sir Horace Panter of The Specials star alongside members of Pama International, The Sidewalk Doctors and Intensified, who admirably capture the spirit of the times.
Lead singer Rhoda Dakar went on to work with the Specials, Madness, and Apollo 440 as well as recording as a solo act, but in 2015 she decided to look back to the band that launched her career, and Rhoda Dakar Sings the Bodysnatchers is an approximation of the album the group never got to make, featuring a handful of unrecorded original tunes. from the band as well as new versions of "Let's Do Rocksteady" and "Easy Life.
This album will feature previously unrecorded and unheard (aside from the odd bootleg) Bodysnatchers songs. To be launched at an exclusive Rhoda Dakar sings The Bodysnatchers show at Camden Town’s legendary Jazz Cafe on Halloween (Friday 31st October). 10% of any money raised after the goal is reached will go to Raw Material.
