But flaws and incompleteness aside, Lost and Found is, for the most part, a fine collection of Bobo recordings dating from the early to mid-'70s, when the artist was still at the peak of his creativity.

If there was ever a testament that good things come from snooping in your mother’s closet, then let it be these lost sessions by Spanish Harlem percussionist extraordinaire Willie Bobo. Leaving behind the foot-stomping boogaloo sounds of the ’60s that have populated almost every Latin soul compilation, Lost and Found finds Bobo more influenced by the mid-tempo black soul music and the earthy Santana-esque, Latin fusions coming out of America at the time. There is still no lack of sweaty horn workouts, cowbells, and groovy organ like on "A Koko” or "Soul Foo Young,” and Bobo’s talented band-leadership qualities of letting his players shine on solos are all in evidence. However, as "Fairy Tales for Two” and a cover of what Bobo has called his most favourite song.

Willie Bobo was the stage name of William Correa (February 28, 1934 – September 15, 1983), a Latin and jazz percussionist of Puerto Rican ancestry. William Correa grew up in Spanish Harlem, New York City. He made his name in Latin Jazz, specifically Afro-Cuban jazz, in the 1960s and 1970s, with the timbales becoming his favoured instrument. His youngest son, Eric Bobo (Eric Correa), is a percussionist with crew Cypress Hill. He also performed on the Beastie Boys' 1994 album Ill Communication, as well as doing the 1994 Lollapalooza tour with the group His grandson William Valen Correa, son of Bobo's first son William Gill Correa, is Co-Founder of the music-based non-profit organization HNDP Los Angeles.

To hear Willie Bobo's groovy Latin jams is to love them forever. This talented percussionist and bandleader played in a lot of famous bands (Tito Puente's among them), and made a bunch of solo records in the 1960s and 1970s - sadly, he died in 1983 without ever really getting his due. But he was smooth and he was funky and he needs to be rediscovered, like, pronto. Maybe the rediscovery can start here  . Lost and Found sounds great, and the music doesn't sound like it should ever have been left off any of the original albums. The songs on this release show that Bobo had a lot more range than "talented percussionist and bandleader" might imply.
