In 1989 Cool C released his debut single Juice Crew Dis which was a dis track aimed at the hip hop crew named Juice Crew, which was ran by Marley Marl. The dis gained Cool C a fair amount of attention. Eventually after a few singles, Cool C landed a contract with Atlantic Records, where he released two solo albums, I Gotta Habit which peaked at the number 51 spot on Billboard top R&B/HIP-HOP albums and stayed on the chart for almost 3 months in 1989 and his second album Life In The Ghetto released in 1990, peaked at the number. 72nd spot on Billboard top R&B/HIP-HOP albums
