A fun tune from the "other" Liverpool band. Does anyone hold a guitar higher than Gerry?
I Like It" is the second single by Liverpudlian band Gerry and the Pacemakers. Like Gerry Marsden's first number one, it was written by Mitch Murray. The song reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on 20 June 1963, where it stayed for four weeks. It reached No. 17 in the American charts in 1964. In 1978, The Rezillos did a punk cover version on their debut album Can't Stand The Rezillos. In 1980, Depeche Mode had it in their early live set.

Gerry and the Pacemakers. David Farrell/Redferns. Long before Frankie came into his life, Gerry Marsden was very well off. He received healthy royalty checks for his old hits with Gerry and the Pacemakers, and he was on the road nine months out of every twelve, doing lucrative cabaret gigs and nostalgia rock shows in Europe, North America and Australia. Then in 1983 an outrageous sex-and-glam quintet from Marsden’s own hometown, Liverpool, put a campy rearrangement of one of his songs, Ferry Cross the Mersey, on the B side of its debut single. After the hits petered out, Marsden disbanded the Pacemakers in 1969 and headed for London’s West End, where he played a handyman in a long-running romantic comedy, Charlie Girl. He also regularly appeared in comedy sketches on television variety shows. It was always easy for me to make people laugh at a good joke, he says.
Gerry and the Pacemakers' next two singles, Murray's "I Like It" and Rodgers and Hammerstein's "You'll Never Walk Alone", both also reached number one in the UK Singles Chart, the latter recorded instead of the Beatles' "Hello Little Girl" Since then Gerry has occasionally toured with various line-ups of the band on the oldies circuit. Drummer Freddie Marsden died on 9 December 2006 in Southport, age 66.

And I love the way you tickle my chin. And I like the way you let me come in when your momma ain't there. I like the words you say and all the things you do. And I like the way you straighten my tie. And I like the way you're winking your eye. And I know I like you. You know I like you.
