Live release collects material recorded at three shows from the end of the band’s turbulent career. First released in 1999 almost twenty years after it was recorded, The Birthday Party’s Live 81-82 remains the only full-length document of the seminal post-punk band’s live presence.
Though various live releases had emerged over the course of the band's existence, no full-length capturing of the Party's particular bacchanalia approved by the group had officially emerged until this release. Stitching together tracks from a London date in 1981 and a German show in 1982 (plus a ringer cut from Athens, Greece - a version of the Stooges' "Funhouse" with Jim Thirwell aka Foetus on sax)), Live threatens at all points to leap from the speakers and throttle innocent bystanders. Clear sound on the first ten songs, all from the London.

The Birthday Party is a 1980 album by Australian rock band The Boys Next Door (later reissued under the band name The Birthday Party).
The first semi-official Birthday Party live LP only came out about two years after the split - It's Still Living, capturing an Australian show from 1982, was released by their former manager without anybody's consent, and is usually chastised for vastly inferior sound quality and other problems. It took almost two more decades before an archival Birthday Party live release finally appeared that could sort of serve as a proper benchmark for evaluating and enjoying the band's sound
