Metro Area 7 Metro Area. All about Metro Area.

Metro Area is the self-titled debut studio album by American house music group Metro Area, released on October 22, 2002. It was named the second best album of the decade by Resident Advisor. Fact magazine rated it as the nineteenth best album of the decade. Intro" (Geist, Jesrani) – 0:32. Dance Reaction" (Geist, Jesrani) – 6:11. Miura" (Geist, Jesrani) – 6:42. Piña" (Geist, Jesrani) – 6:05. Square-Pattern Aura" (Geist, Jesrani) – 5:36. Machine Vibes" (Geist, Jesrani) – 5:39.

Complete your Metro Area collection. The addition of "Dance Reaction" and "¨Piña" to the original vinyl album tracks is welcome. Strut" and "Let's Get" are less interesting, and the last of the three discs is the weakest by a mile ("Machine Vibes" being the less good from the original album imho). The first two discs are heat though, and make this re-issue worth.

Metro Area is Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani. After releasing a number of 12" EPs, they issued their first self-titled album (Metro Area) in 2002. The brainchild of veteran producers Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, Metro Area was born out of the pair's somewhat dichotomous love for both the old moods of R&B, disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of innovative house and techno.

Metro Area was compiled from tracks that first appeared on a series of EPs that began to emerge in 1999. Geist had set up his label, Environ, four years earlier, and he and Jesrani bonded over the older and slower strains of New York dance music more than the tribal and progressive dominated the city's clubs at the time. The pair have since seemed ambivalent about Metro Area, with each pursuing more song-based projects.

Personally, I would class "Caught Up" as my #1 favourite deep house track. Such emotional nuance married with impeccable arrangement is incredibly rare.

It's my favourite house track too. It's the cut that really affirmed my love house music.

"Tonky Pumpz" is the one on this EP. Funky, pumpin', does its work on the floor. The rest of this record is not very interesting in my opinion.

"Caught Up" uses samples from both sides of Inner Life's "I'm Caught Up (In One Night Love Affairs)"

Probably the best EP on this label by far... and the rest is damn good too! "Caught Up" is my favorite one, although "Tonky pumps" is the one that gets the crowd going. Kudos to Darshan and Morgan, this EP has given pleasant evenings over and over.

'Caught Up' is a timeless midtempo classic, like the dream night encounter of deep Detroit house with tender disco strings played live, the whole recorded with analogue equipement and acoustic instruments and percussions which gives it a unique warmth. Very hard to avoid gooseflesh when the strings come back in. Essential tune that tells a real story.

Caught up is such an emotional release. Sounds like there is no electronica involved at all. It can be fit in every set from deep-house/garage to Detroit techno. Every style is in it. Think this will be the most sought after record within 5 years from now. TOTAL GEM
