Jim Lauderdale could easily be called a renaissance man. He’s a great singer, great guitar player and there’s no way you could miss his work as a songwriter. Jim Lauderdale is a 2-time Grammy winning Americana icon, a singer-songwriter whose unmistakable silhouette has been a symbol for creative integrity and prolificacy for thirty-one albums over decades of recording. He’s an A-list Nashville songwriter whose songs have ruled the country charts while recording an eclectic catalogue of albums that run the gamut of American roots styles. His prolific streak of releases continues in 2019 with his new album ‘From Another World’. The twelve songs contained within, all written or co-written by Jim, are his antidote to the anger, divisiveness of today’s world, a world full of bad news and folks yelling at each other on CNN.

In the summer of 1979 Jim Lauderdale made a pilgrimage to Nashville from North Carolina with two goals: to work with and befriend Roland White and George Jones, and to make a mark on the respective worlds of bluegrass and country music. While Lauderdale puts it down to luck, it was more likely fate that brought he and White together. If you are a fan of either Lauderdale or White, you should enjoy this (should I say long delayed ?) debut album. Steve Ramm Anything Phonographic.

Planet of Love (Warner, 1991) was not particularly original, but that album and the subsequent ones, Pretty Close to The Truth (Atlantic, 1994) and Every Second Counts (1995) established the career of a prolific country songwriter. Persimmons (Rounder, 1996), with Life By Numbers, and Whisper (BMG, 1998), with She Used To Say That To Me, led to the melodic and upbeat Onward Through It All (BMG, 1999), perhaps his best (We Really Shouldn't Be Doing This).
