Korean Air Lines Flight 007 (also known as KAL007 and KE007) was a scheduled Korean Air Lines flight from New York City to Seoul via Anchorage, Alaska. On 1 September 1983, the South Korean airliner serving the flight was shot down by a Soviet Su-15 interceptor. The Boeing 747 airliner was en route from Anchorage to Seoul, but deviated from its original planned route and flew through Soviet prohibited airspace about the time of a . aerial reconnaissance mission

Of the 226 passengers and crew on board, 15 were killed in the accident.

The crew aborted the take-off, and after the aircraft came to a stop the fire was extinguished by the airport emergency services. All 319 passengers and crew were evacuated; 12 occupants were injured.

Korean Air has hubs at Seoul Gimpo International Airport (GMP) and Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN). Service was the only thing above average. Everything else, average at best. Date of travel: March 2019.

We experienced this on our outgoing AND return flight where we were treated differently/poorly than the other passengers who were Korean.
