In this 1988 release for the Elektra/Nonesuch label, the Assad brothers interpret wonderfully a sophisticated set of Brazilian composers that goes from classical Villa-Lobos to popular Wagner Tiso, from erudite Marlos Nobre to the Brazilian jazz proponent Hermeto Pascoal, from the classically trained popular composer Egberto Gismonti to the classically trained popular composer Radamés Gnattali, and they even play Sérgio. Assad's compositions. This seems to be the subliminal message: constant labeling of things "classical" and "popular" serves no useful purposes.

Sérgio Assad (born 26 December 1952) is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and arranger who often performs with his brother, Odair Assad in the guitar duo Sérgio and Odair Assad, commonly referred to as Assad Brothers or Duo Assad. Their younger sister Badi Assad, is also a guitarist. Sérgio is the father of ist Clarice Assad. He is married to Angela Olinto.

By the time they were teenagers, their prowess brought them to Rio de Janeiro and study with Monina Tavora, a student of Segovia. They have been Nonesuch recording artists since 1985.
