One from the Heart is a soundtrack album of Tom Waits compositions for the Francis Ford Coppola film of the same name. It was recorded from October 1980 to September 1981, and released in February 1982. It was during this period that Waits met his wife Kathleen Brennan, an employee at the studio where it was recorded. Crystal Gayle features prominently on the record, performing either solo or in duets with Waits. The soundtrack was nominated for an Academy Award for Original Music Score.

1985 studio album by Heart. The album also yielded the band's first number-one single, "These Dreams", along with four other singles: "What About Love", "Never", "Nothin' at All", and "If Looks Could Kill", with the first three singles reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Lyrics for The Rose by Gary Brown feat. Some say love it is a river That drowns the tender reed. Some say love it is a razor That. Some say love it is a hunger An endless, aching need I say love it is a flower, And you its only seed. It's the heart afraid of breaking That never learns to dance It's the dream afraid of waking That never takes the chance It's the one who won't be taken, Who cannot seem to give And the soul afraid of dying That never learns to live. When the night has been too lonely And the road has been too long. And you think that love is only For the lucky and the strong. More lyrics from the album. The Road To Recovery Greatest Hits 2. One From the Heart is the score to the most misunderstood of Francis Ford Coppola's films. Far ahead of its time in terms of technology, use of color, montage, and set design, its soundtrack is the only thing that grounds it to earth. Coppola's movie is a metaphorical retelling of the exploits of Zeus and Hera set in Las Vegas. That cut was a duet with Bette Midler. The result is one of the most beautifully wrought soundtrack collaborations in history. Along with producer Bones Howe, Waits and Gayle cut their duets largely from the studio floor, live with the small combo-style studio band that included the saxophonist Teddy Edwards, drummer Shelly Manne, trumpeter Jack Sheldon, pianist Pete Jolly, and bassist Greg Cohen, among others.

From James Brown to Etta James, Jimi Hendrix to Patsy Cline, here are the tracks that lit up the decade. The famous Celtic ballad begins with a lustful list of physical attributes-a true love’s hair, face, eyes, and hands-but Nina Simone’s voice is less than interested in the material world. She emits a spectral trill, as confident and crestfallen as a death-row inmate. Even the skeletal piano feels too heavy for Simone’s vaporous devotion.
