Smash Your Head Against the Wall is the debut solo album by John Entwistle, the bassist for English rock band the Who. The album was released on Track Records in the UK and Decca Records in the US. Though the first solo album by any member of the Who, the record includes notable playing and backing vocals by fellow Who member Keith Moon as well as strong musical influences from the group's work. When Entwistle was asked about his first single, "I Believe in Everything", in comparison with the rest of the album, he said: I've been saying a lot of stuff that I didn't really believe in. I sort of wrote it for the heads, really, the people thinking, "ah, so that's where Entwistle's brain's at, he really sort of believes in the devil and hell and all that sort of business.

John Entwistle had been writing tunes since the Who's second album, the majority of them coming out as album cuts or as B-sides of singles. But in the early '70s, with the Who becoming even less of an outlet for his songwriting talents, Entwistle forged ahead with his first solo album, Smash Your Head Against the Wall. Musically, it has much of a Who flavor to it, with the strong guitar work, lumbering drums and basslines that define the music.

this is a very nice german gatefold sleeve of the great oxes first solo album from 1971, the sleeve is not laminated and was released on the red polydor label in germany in 1971 along with the rest of the worldwide release at that time, the only thing im not sure of if this was ever reissued in germany after this first pressing, it was reissued once in the us and the uk ( im pretty sure) but that was probably it as this record sadly did not do well, its a monster record, very heavy, dark with great jamming, i will never know why this did not do better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! johns solo version of heaven and hell is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this was a really great cd reissue of the BEST solo album ever by a WHO member back in 1997, this reissue if from 1997 and the original lp was released in 1971 and was the first solo album by any WHO member at the time, this great 1997 cd reissue from 20 years ago came with a nice enhanced booklet and also includes the single B side cinnamon girl and an alternative mix of what are we doing here, ( hence in 2006 all of entwistles solo stuff was reissued again on cd w/ more bonus tracks).............

really nice aussie issue of this classic from 1971, this aussie issue has a rear sleeve unique to australia only, great thin laminated sleeve..............
kolos kolos
i cant be 100% sure if there where two issues of this classic released in australia but i have the red polydor label issue from 1975 that was released in oz, the sleeve is totally laminated and this is not a gatefold sleeve, also the back sleeve artwork is unique to australia only as the artwork for the rear of the lp is the same artwork that is on the inside of the gatefold sleeve on all us, uk and other issues of this from other territories but this one does not pop up often from oz and this was without a doubt the johns BEST RECORD EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! glad to have a unique oz version............

There are at least 2 different mixes of the UK LP!

this is a nice original spain pressing of the 1971 debt solo album by john entwistle ( wich was his best!!) unfortunately my copy does not seem to have the original lyric inner sleeve but the record is a typical thick late 60s/early 70s pressing, the sleeve is laminated and quit shiny if this can be found in mint or near mint condition it would look best, also this sleeve is NOT A GATEFOLD SLEEVE the text on the back of the sleeve is in spanish wich makes this collectable, this is very hard to find out of spain, i wish my copy was better then vg+ but hey considering how rare it is i should not complain....................... my mother copy of this classic record is the original 1971 japan issue with the gatefold sleeve, obi and insert....................
