The French Connection" was the second film score from jazz andleader Don Ellis. His first was for the British 1969 sci-fi "space western", "Moon Zero Two". Director William Friedkin was finishing up his 1971 "French Connection" film and needed a musical score to match the edgy, gritty, violent tone set in a NYC backdrop involving police nailing a huge drug shipment from France. His "French Connection" theme, so cool & prevalent in the film, would be included on his 1972 "Connection" album and earn him a Grammy award. In addition to "The French Connection", this FSM cd also contains Don's complete score for the 1975 John Frankenheimer sequel "French Connection II", which includes 33 cues of his fine writing totaling 37 minutes.
