Description

Fritz Kreisler 1875-1962.

61: First Movement: Allegro Ma Non Troppo (Cadenza By Kreisler) by Itzhak Orchestra/Carlo Maria Giulini. I read in an article that Perlman loves the Beethoven violin concerto. It is apparent in his beautiful and emotional playing on this recording.

Beethoven, Mendelssohn: Violin Concertos. Originally recorded in 1981, digitally remastered in 1988, and reissued here in 2010, Perlman's recording of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with Carlo Maria Giulini and the Philharmonia Orchestra needs little introduction for collectors.

Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844 by Joseph Joachim. Since then it has become one of the best-known violin concertos. Beethoven had previously written a number of pieces for violin and orchestra.

Fritz Kreisler’s music was the essence of Fritz Kreisler, Perlman has said of the legendary Viennese violinist. All that wonderful feeling of what he was came out in his composing. In short works for the violin, nobody surpassed him. This album irresistibly proves Perlman’s point.
