Pepper& Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper& Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967).

Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band The Beatles - 1967 Album Chords, Tracks: 1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. With A Little Help From My Friends 3. Lucy In The Sky With Diam.

The idea held for all of two songs, one coda, and one album sleeve, but was retained as the central organizing and marketing feature of the band’s 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. So I said, ‘Sergeant Pepper,’ just to vary it, ‘Sergeant Pepper, salt and pepper,’ an aural pun, not mishearing him but just playing with the words. I just fantasised, well, ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’. That’d be crazy enough because why would a Lonely Hearts Club have a band? If it had been Sergeant Pepper’s British Legion Band, that’s more understandable.

Pepper’s is indeed that album, and half a century on, the argument for that grand statement - one made since the very week of its release - has only grown stronger. And all this was either pre-ordained or a glorious coincidence, because Sgt. Pepper’s became a crossroads for the band - and the world. And there were instruments galore: Harpsichords, tamboura, Mellotron, harmonium, woodwinds, and a variety of guitars, pianos, and tambourines. And, of course, a 40-piece orchestra. The power of the studio-centric approach is heard across the LP, especially on With a Little Help From My Friends, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, and the epic A Day in the Life. The other was where I was when I first head Sgt. The album was the vanguard of the so-called hippie movement.

The concept was for the four Beatles themselves to appear in costume as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, surrounded by a gathering of influential people as if they had just performed a concert. A total of 58 different people are depicted on the final artwork. Those chosen from a collective list drawn up by John, Paul, George, Peter Blake, Jann Haworth and London art dealer Robert Fraser. Like the album cover itself, The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper costumes would become some of the most iconic band outfits ever, instantly recognisable and forever woven into the fabric of our culture. Like Shirley Temple (No. 8, 71 and 73), Bobby Breen was a child star of the 30s.
