Great album from beginning to end, however, if you think this was mastered from the original tapes, guess again. As with most PTG releases, done from vinyl rips. Very sad.

REALLY terrible mastering on this. Quite disappointing. I am guessing the mastering engineer thought it would be a good idea to over-exaggerate the low end and sacrifice the highs? And the compression? no thanks! It appears to have been sourced from the master tapes at least, compared to the vinyl masterpiece 2006 issue, which was most likely a vinyl transfer.

Unfortunately, that and so many others famous tunes has been coming in FAKE phonographic issues, even from renowned filliated labels with majors...I had problem with Billy Griffin, The Brothers Johnson, Jimmy Bo Horne's (from original TK) and so on... It's a shame! In this B.B.&Q., it should be reported to Elektra Records as a crime!

If you’re a fan of 80’s soul & funk, you’ll probably remember this album from its first release back in 1985. This is a re-issue of the ‘Genie’ album, but bundled in with the original track line up are a host of remixes by the likes of Shep Pettibone and Ben Liebrand. Some of these remixes were released as 12” singles following the original release of the album. The bands lead vocalist, Curtis Hairston had one of the most underrated voices of that era. There’s no doubt about it, he was a class act. His performance on this album is outstanding. Even with the added bonus of all the extra remixes, the title track ‘Genie’ IMO is still the pick of the bunch on this release. In closing, if you want to replace your old vinyl copy of ‘Genie’ you can’t go wrong with this…

This cd is most likely from a VINYL COPY! This was not done from the master tapes.
