Description

Опубликовано: 21 июл. 2007 г. The Kinks - Dead End Street. Dead End Street (Mono Version).

Dead End Street" is a song by the British band the Kinks from 1966, written by main songwriter Ray Davies. Like many other songs written by Davies, it is to some degree influenced by British Music Hall. It was originally released as a non-album single, but has since been included as one of several bonus tracks from the Face to Face CD. The song, like many others by the group, deals with the poverty and misery found in the lower classes of English society

Dead End Street Lyrics. There's a crack up in the ceiling And the kitchen sink is leaking Out of work and got no money A Sunday joint of bread and honey. What are we living for? Two-roomed apartment on the second floor No money coming in The rent collector's knocking, trying to get in We are strictly second class We don't understand. Dead end!) Why we should be on dead end street (Dead end!) People are living on dead end street (Dead end!) Gonna die on dead end street. Dead end street (yeah) Dead end street (yeah)

The Kinks (1963–1996; 2018-present) are an English pop-rock group that came out of the British R&B scene of the early 1960s. Formed in Muswell Hill, North London, by brothers Ray Davies and Dave Davies in 1964 and categorised in the United States as a "British Invasion" band, the Kinks are recognised as one of the most important and influential rock groups of the era. In 1990, their first year of eligibility, the original four members were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Later, in November 2005, they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

Dead End Street" has been covered by The Jam. The song and its music video influenced Oasis's hit "The Importance of Being Idle" from 2005. An unreleased alternative recording of the song from October 1966 was issued in December 2008 on the Kinks 6-CD box set Picture Book. In 2010, Davies also recorded this as a duet with Amy Macdonald on the album See My Friends. Ray Davies-Lead vocals, guitar.

The title "Dead End Street," which means a one way street, implies the difficulty for many of getting away from the desperate situation they find themselves in. Ray Davies explained to Q magazine: "My whole feeling about the '60s was that it's not as great as everyone thinks it is. Carnaby Street, everybody looking happy, that was all a camouflage. That's what Dead End Street was about. I never wanted to own anything because my dad had never owned property.
