Robert Klein (born February 8, 1942) is an American stand-up comedian, singer, and actor. He had several comedy albums in the 1970s, was nominated for a Best Actor in a Musical Tony Award for 1979's They're Playing Our Song, and has made a variety of TV and movie appearances, including hosting Saturday Night Live twice. Klein was born in the Bronx, the son of Frieda (née Moskowitz) and Benjamin Klein and was raised in a "prototypical 1950s Bronx Jewish" environment.
Robert Klein hit the main seam, taking observational comedy to new heights by finding the humor in everyday things, whether it was a trip to the dentist or life in high school in the nuclear age. Robert Klein was talking to us: the baby-boom generation that had screamed for the Beatles, postured with the Rolling Stones, grooved to The Mod Squad. It's hard to overestimate how fresh and unexpected Klein's comedy seemed when he first appeared on television. His first album, Child of the 50s, became a kind of Bible for the who were following in his footsteps. Klein came from theater: Yale Drama School, to be exact. A Bronx native who graduated high school at 16 and college at 20, he quit Yale because he thought he could make it as an actor in theater in New York.

Robert Klein: The HBO Specials 1975-2005. Kultur // Unrated // September 25, 2007. Continuing a thread from his previous HBO appearance, Klein spends the beginning of his fourth special walking through the halls of his old Bronx high school, complete with a doo-wop number (Klein really does have a pretty great singing voice). His distinctive gravelly voice is beginning to show itself, he's upgraded to a smart-looking suit and this 58-minute gig finds the comic exploring parenthood, game shows and doling out a song or two (including, yes, "I Can't Stop My Leg").
