Timmy Gatling, an American musician, was an original member of the swingbeat threesome Guy. After he left the group for his own production and recording career, he carried on producing for other artists and groups. He found the time to release his only solo album, Help!, in 1989, and it featured two moderate hits including the title track & "Rock Me Good".

The album was mixed by Timmy Regisford, who would work with Riley on a number of projects over the next few years. Guy was initially recorded at the house of Riley's mother.
