The R&B Kings of New Orleans: The Best of Ernie K-Doe & Chris Kenner. This boxed two-fer combines two previously released single-disc collections by New Orleans R&B pioneers Ernie K-Doe (Absolutely the Best, originally released on CD by Fuel in 2001) and Chris Kenner (Land of 1000 Dances, originally released on CD by Collectables in 2003). What ties the two collections together is the presence on both of New Orleans pianist and producer Allen Toussaint, who is featured prominently on piano on Kenner's disc and was the producer for the tracks on K-Doe's.
Chris Kenner (December 25, 1929 – January 25, 1976) was a New Orleans rhythm & blues singer and songwriter, best known for two hit singles, "I Like It Like That" and "Land Of 1000 Dances", in the early 1960s, that became staples in the repertoires of many other musicians. Born in the farming community of Kenner, Louisiana, upriver from New Orleans, Kenner sang gospel music with his church choir, and moved to New Orleans in his teens.

Ernest Kador Jr. (February 22, 1933 – July 5, 2001), known by the stage name Ernie K-Doe, was an African-American rhythm-and-blues singer best known for his 1961 hit single "Mother-in-Law", which went to number 1 on the Billboard pop chart in the . Born in New Orleans, K-Doe recorded as a member of the group the Blue Diamonds in 1954 before making his first solo recordings the following year
Chris Kenner is a forgotten great of the '50s New Orleans R & B scene. Known primarily as a great songwriter, the songs he penned proved to be chart toppers for other artists (. Wilson Pickett, who scored with Kenner's "Land of 1000 Dances" and "Something You Got"). However, he cut dozens of sides as a solo artist in the '50s and they're all of a very high quality. Other greats to check out for those interested in putting together a great Mardi Gras collection: the aforementioned Domino, K-Doe, King, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, and, above all, Huey "Piano" Smith (of "Sea Cruise" and "Rockin' Pneumonia & Boogie-Woogie Flu" fame). You can't go wrong with this disc!

Chris Kenner wrote a number of enduring New Orleans R&B classics, although subsequent cover versions eclipsed all but "I Like It Like That," his Grammy-nominated greatest hit in 1961. Signing with Joe Babashak's Instant label, Kenner's "I Like It Like That," "Land of 1000 Dances," and "Something You Got" sported Allen Toussaint's rolling piano behind Kenner's raw vocals Ernie K-Doe.
