I actually remember this album being advertised on the tv at the time and a couple of days later some of the cool kids were carrying it around at school. K-Tel wanted to give value for money but it was a kind of law of diminishing returns.

While the companion Super Bad Is Back kicked up the funk, its predecessor, Super Bad, brought some of the era's sweetest soul to turntables everywhere. K-Tel may now be the butt of jokes and guffaws, but at the time, and in between some real frights, the label pulled together and presented for the mainstream some absolutely amazing sets - full of songs that many would otherwise never hear. Super Bad certainly fits the latter mold. The album taken as a whole is full of smooth grooves and smoother moves, while still adding a little funk to the mix.

i discovered this little (actually, big) gem of a compilation several years ago in a bargain bin. i still can't believe that a treasure like this was marked down as it contains music from big hits like "shaft" all the way to "the mack". if you dig that style of cinematography or just the music, you'll need this excellent and hep. album to complete your collection. 2 people found this helpful.
