It was released on 11 March 1985 through Merciful Release and WEA, with Elektra Records handling the US release. The band was founded in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx in Leeds. Up to 1983, the band produced five singles and two EPs, which were released on the band's own indie label Merciful Release and were distributed independently as well

{:: 'cloud flare always on short message' i18n }} Check us for updates. We'll have things fixed soon. The Sisters of Mercy. Produced by David M. Allen. Album First and Last and Always. First and Last and Always Lyrics. See a body and the dream of the dead days Following lost and blind Living, far from here Tomorrow is hard to find And it seems like twenty-five years of Promises and give me more Scenes of a hand me down in Dresses heard before. First and last and always: 'til the end of time First and last and always: Mine. Maybe it's not so easy Maybe it's a way too long Say, say you'll be by me When the evidence comes along

Light weight vinyl with some production irregularities (some songs seem louder/richer than others) yet it really delivers. The title says it all: this first album is the Sisters at their very best. Reply Notify me Helpful.

The Sisters of Mercy actually formed around 1976 and was named after a song by Leonard Cohen of the same name. Not the actual sister herself that Leonard Cohen titled the song after. This first incarnation is not responsible for the album "First and Last and Always". Only being Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx. The album itself was recorded in 1984 and released in 1985 when this line-up of the band broke-up. What was left in the aftermath is the album "First and Last and Always". First and Last and Always just like the previous bands mentioned in the introduction is considered a part of the so-called "Dark Culture". The album seems to be reminiscent of Joy Division Unknown Pleasures era and The Cure’s gothic trilogy era wordplay.

That's actually wrong. There are four songs from this album that are presented in different editions for the Japan Release, not three. "No Time to Cry" features different opening and ending instrumentation and sound effects, the most obvious difference is the ending where the British mix features three echoing, for lack of a better term "boom" sounds. The Japanese version lacks these sounds, although there are some effects found at the end of the Japanese version which can be perceived to have the same equivalent as the booming sounds from the British mix.Whoever wrote this obviously didn't realise that the British and Japanese editions of "No Time to Cry" were different. Lucky I came here to break this information to other reviewers and readers.
