The Gay Parade is indie pop's very own Sgt. Pepper, a richly detailed, grandly ambitious concept record which forgoes the ponderous pretensions the phrase implies to instead exult in the simple joys of everyday life

The March Of The Gay Parade. 6. Neat Little Domestic Life. 7. A Collection Of Poems About Water. 8. Y The Quale And Vaguely Bird Noisily Enjoying Their Forbidden Tryst, I’d Be A Yellow Feathered Loon. 9. The Autobiographical Grandpa. 10. The Miniature Philosopher.

The Gay Parade can go from a whimsical pop tune, to a more heavy guitar, rock influenced song, to a serious ballad, all the way over to a song dominated by brass instruments. The Gay Parade is just pure fun, and it is an interesting listen no matter how many times you listen to it. The best part about this album is the instruments. Of Montreal uses a very wide variety, and sometimes the instruments can be so complex you don't know what there using. Guitars, keyboards, brass instruments, piano's, xylophones, harmonica's, and accordians all play a role on this album

Catalog number appears as KC029 on the cover's spine, as KC-029 on the LP labels, and KC 029B on the 7" labels. I'd Be A Yellow Feathered Loon" is listed as the first track on the B-side of the LP, although it actually follows the final song of the A-side. Track times are not listed on the release itself. Recorded September 1997-October 1998 at Kevin's house.
