Kirchen recorded the album Tombstone Every Mile on Demon Records, while in England and then released the recording in the USA after he signed with Black Top Records in 1994. He released the critically acclaimed and musically eclectic album, Have Love, Will Travel in 1996 and Raise a Ruckus on Hightone Records in 1999. Kirchen followed up with more album releases. on Hightone Records including Tied to the Wheel in 2001, King of Dieselbilly (2005). In 2006 Bill kicked off his new deal with Proper Records by recording Hammer Of The Honky -Tonk Gods at their London studio.
Kirchen is an exceptional player on all ten cuts (a cover of Bob Dylan's "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" shows he can excel on stuff besides straight country material), and a strong singer and songwriter to boot, but this doesn't hold together with the same cohesion as Tied to the Wheel, Raise a Ruckus, or Hot Rod Lincoln Live!, the. albums that provided the bulk of this material, and including both versions of "Hot Rod Lincoln" (which aren't all that different) wasn't an inspired programming choice.

Since bursting on the scene with Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen in the late ’60s, Bill Kirchen has been at the forefront of twangcore and hillbilly rock. As one of the first to bring the spanky sounds of Tele pioneers Roy Nichols and Don Rich to the Woodstock generation, Kirchen has rightfully earned his Titan of the Telecaster moniker by playing a soulful mix of rockabilly, Western swing, blues, and honky-tonk. Kirchen’s musical journey began.
King Of Dieselbilly serves as a career précis, with Kirchen revisiting songs that have been a staple of his live set over the last 40 years, including yet another trucker anthem Looking At The World Through A Windshield. Commander Cody’s signature track Hot Rod Lincoln gets a live airing, its fizz and pop matched note-for-note by his bouncy tribute to jukebox 45s, Little Bitty Record (With A Great Big Hole).
