Rosny was the initial home of the 'Rosny Children's Choir', later changing the name to Australian Rosny Children's Choir. A local music teacher, Jennifer Filby, had her pupils sing carols at their end-of-year recital The Choir was first from the southern hemisphere to perform at the renowned choral eisteddfod at Llangollen in Wales (1971), and in 1975 the first Australian choir to perform in China, as part of the Australian government's first cultural exchange. Much of Rosny is given over to thick groves of local she-oaks, which line the foreshore, interspersed with radiating residential streets. The Rosny Point Reserve, owned by the Clarence City Council covers . hectares, but does not include the strip of land adjoining the river which is a Public Reserve under the Crown Land Act (. hectares).

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra ( TSO) was established as such in 1948 as a result of a partnership between the State Government, the Hobart and Launceston City Councils and the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Since 1923 an amateur orchestra, the Hobart Orchestral Society, had provided concerts for Hobart patrons. Conducted by Joseph Post and with Tasmanian-born pianist Eileen Joyce as soloist, the concert proved to be an enormous success. From its earliest years the orchestra provided an annual subscription series, concerts ‘at popular prices’, the ABC Concerto and Vocal Competition Tasmanian final, youth concerts and free school orchestral concerts.

The Danish Broadcast Corporation recently aired a concert called The Duel – Morricone Draws First performed by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, DR SymfoniOrkestret, The Danish National Concert Choir with various soloists conducted by Sarah Hicks. In popular culture, the name Ennio Morricone summons up images of cowboy hats, cheroots, and swarthy, dusty men dying in extreme close-up while a whistle sound dramatically pierces the background. Morricone’s work for Sergio Leone’s spaghetti Western films is justly famous, but it’s only the very tip of his musical genius.
