Brian Carpenter & the Confessions pull back the curtain on Carpenter as a songwriter and vocalist. Recorded in 2011 but not released until this October, their new debut album is called The Far End of the World. He and the band will perform selections from The Far End of the World at Great Scott on Wednesday, with opening sets from Thalia Zedek Band and the Wrong Shapes. Carpenter calls them fragile
Another World is the second studio album by Queen guitarist Brian May. Recorded at his home studio after the completion of the last Queen album, Made in Heaven, the album was released in the UK on 1 June 1998 and on 15 September of that year in the US. The album itself started as a cover album. The "Heroes" concept was to record his favourite tracks from his favourite artists, but the idea soon mutated into a full album
2 Brian Carpenter & The Confessions. The band recorded their debut The Far End of the World with Rafi Sofer at Q Division Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts and mixed with Craig Schumacher in Tucson, Arizona Radio. In 2001, Carpenter began hosting a weekly experimental radio program Free Association on WZBC at Boston College. In 2010 Carpenter contributed to tracks on the Swans album My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sk. .
Beautiful Jane, from Carpenter’s upcoming The Far End Of The World, begins with heavy-reverb guitar cutting through dense, measured organ chords. He sings with a weary confidence and a hint of absurd side-eye, striking a tone somewhere between Ira Kaplan and Bill Callahan as he tells the story of ex-lover whose touch is now consigned to his dreams. Eventually the song blooms into lush strings and background vocals that change the feeling from cathedral to church. It’s a wonderful song, and as Carpenter explains, he almost scrapped it: I kept changing the arrangement.
